Each month we like to spotlight one of the members of the Limelight Theatre community. This month, meet one of our newer members, Amy Sales, who will be directing and performing in the upcoming ‘A Princess Dream’!
“I am very excited to be directing “Death of a Salesman” at Limelight Theatre in March. I’ve been involved in theatre for as long as I can remember. As a child if I wasn’t playing imaginary games with my siblings, I was most certainly telling them how to put on some sort of show. As the eldest child of a big family, directing is in my blood. I enjoyed performing from the first moment I stepped on stage. As much as standing in front of a crowd scared me, the feeling of elation overtook me and from that moment I was hooked.”
“I was involved in many productions during school, “Finding Miss Scarlet”, “Hamlet”, “Oliver – the musical” to name a few. I joined an after-school drama class with Snapshot Youth Theatre in 2011 and was involved in One-Act Festivals and “Singing in the Rain”. I also co-directed “Stuart Little” and wrote a couple of short plays: “Heartbeat” and “The Date from Hell”, which was performed in the Youth Festival of 2012. In 2012/13 I went on an International Drama Tour to the UK, performing Jenny Davis’ play “River Dreaming”. Following this I was invited to write the play for the follow-on tour in 2015/16. I wrote “A Land of Legends”, co-directed the production and assisted with the youth theatre tour, stage managing and directing, it was a great experience.”
“In 2014 I began my Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in theatre at the University Of Notre Dame. Through this degree I got to perform and study all my favourite texts. I got the part of Silvius in my second -year performance of “As You Like It” by Shakespeare, and was involved as Props Director for a production of Macbeth and Stage Manager for a devised piece. I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship for a Theatre and English Tour to the UK in 2016. I will be continuing my study this coming year (2018), taking on Honours in Theatre, which will begin as “Death of a Salesman” begins its season. My project for this degree is research with the goal of writing and producing a play.”
“I have only been involved in musical productions at the Limelight Theatre since 2012 and have enjoyed every one of them. I shared the role of Penny in “Hairspray”, and also performed in “Anything Goes”, “Sweet Charity”, “Greenwicks” and “The Wedding Singer”. But this year I am taking on a drama to direct. I joined the theatre committee in March and have enjoyed getting involved in the behind-the-scenes work of the theatre. I am looking forward to taking on the challenge of such a wonderful script as Arthur Miller’s classic. I have a wonderful team behind me and am ever so grateful. I hope you enjoy the show and the combined effort of so many people.”
