One Act Play Season – Auditions

One Act a Time. June 10 to June 26 2021

Auditions for our One Act Play season will take place at the Theatre on Saturday 6th March between 10am and 12.30pm

Homemade Sausage Rolls by Robin Sweet (10 – 10:30am)

This is a short play about 5 siblings who have come from their mother’s wake. They have a discussion about who they think, out of all them, was their mother’s favourite! The conversation brings back memories of their childhood and time spent with their mother.

The characters are:

Angie, Maci, Tina, Winifred and Barry

Age range 40 – 60 (stage ages)

The Two of Us or Chinamen by Michael Frayn (10:30 – 11:30am)

The action takes place in the dining room of Stephen and Jo’s house with the table laid for six. It is evening and Stephen and Jo are preparing for a dinner party with friends. The friends are about to arrive when things go a little awry and Stephen and Jo find themselves in an embarrassing situation.

Two actors play the 5 characters:

Male Actor:

Stephen – Married to Jo (25 to 40 years)
Barney – Friend of Stephen and Jo (similar age)

Female Actor:

Jo – Married to Stephen
Bee – Friend of Stephen and Jo
Alex – Boyfriend of Bee (younger than the others – hippie)

On an impulse, Jan makes up a story, under pressure she fumbles for a moment and then blurts out that there has been a death in the family. Actually, the only thing wrong is that the family cat is missing. In any case, people start coming over to express their concern and sympathy. The parents think they’re referring to the missing cat and hilarious complications just continue to multiply!

Characters:

Jan Wilson – a flighty 15 year old (stage age)

Chris Wilson – her older sister (up to 20)

Frank Wilson – their father

Shirley Wilson – their mother

Mr Quigley – Chris’ employer (40/50)

Mrs Quigley – his wife (40/50)

Tim Scarlotta – A friend of Chris 16/18

Stan Glowacki – From the City Shelter (any age, either gender)
