On Friday morning we said goodbye to one of Limelight Theatre’s legends and I felt privileged to be invited by the family to speak at her funeral service. Joyce Gilbert was our wardrobe manager for many years and she touched the hearts and funny bones of everyone she knew!
Apart from being a terrific seamstress, she was also a fabulous singer. One of her many “gigs” at Limelight was the very first Limelighter singing her heart out at nursing homes and retirement villages with Lyn and Robert accompanying her to the delight of residents. We all remember her wicked sense of fun, the twinkle in her eye and how she would snatch us from the stage and take us to the wardrobe to be measured for costumes – an activity which became affectionately known as being “Joyced”! Although her final years were spent living with dementia she remained cheerful to the end.
RIP lovely lady xxx
