Hello everyone,
I hope all of you managed to get tickets for The Wedding Singer, our first sell-out show in a very long time – the power and phenomenon of social media at work here I think! It’s a great show and an upbeat way to end our season for 2017.Inevitably, at this time, we reflect on all that we have done and experienced in the past year. For our theatre, 6 excellent productions entertained our members and friends, and brought new audiences to the Limelight Theatre. The Sunday matinees with afternoon teas have certainly proved to be popular and will continue in 2018. We have been happy to support two charity organisations during the year and hope to continue our association with Inner Wheel and the Soroptimists in 2018.
If you have visited the theatre recently you will notice the foyer is changing! Very soon the green, maroon and wood panelling will disappear giving way to a dramatic black, white and gold theme! It will be completed for the first show next year.
We have been able to re-vamp the foyer, replace our aging stage curtain and will eventually build an additional storage area thanks to the generosity of the WA Labour Government. A couple of weeks ago David Templeman, Minister for Culture and the Arts, visited the theatre and was delighted to see how the money donated to us would be used. He met with members of the Tuesday Task Force and enjoyed ‘kicking up his heels’ on the stage! David is a keen thespian himself and understands community theatre very well. Our thanks must go to Sabine Winton, our local MLA, (and ex-student of mine!) who was the prime mover in securing this grant for us.
Finally for 2017 I’d like to wish all our members a very happy and safe Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the Limelight Theatre in 2018.
