One For The Road
Synopsis
Written by Willy Russell
This wickedly observant comedy by the author of “Educating Rita” and “Shirley Valentine” finds Dennis on the eve of his fiftieth birthday, making a last-ditch attempt to break away from the confines of his middle-class, housing-estate existence.
Reaching breaking point at his birthday party he packs a rucksack to make his escape but everyone wants to accompany him and he sinks down in front of the television, defeated.
But there’s always next year…and the year after…

What’s in a Name?
According to the author, Willy Russell, the play went through numerous title changes before settling on it’s final name suggested by Willy’s wife, Annie.
Originally named “Tupperware Man”, it had to be changed due to legal action from Tupperware. Further name changes included “Painted Veg and Parkinson”, “Wagners Walk”, “Aerosol Alley”, “Is Cain Able”, “Gnomes and Gardens”, “Phase Two”, “Anyone for Dennis”.
