A Season of One Act Plays
Synopsis
“The Greening of Grace” – written by William Zappa
Grace may be old and frail, but she isn’t a victim.
Resisting her daughter’s attempts to protect her, and fueled and challenged by her grandson’s passion, Grace becomes an unlikely eco-warrior and demonstrates that every individual has the power to change the world. The play is told from Grace’s perspective, in retrospect, providing an insight into how her family provided a catalyst for change.
“150 Years of the Roman Empire in 30 Minutes” – written by Zavier Wileman
The idea of this play was born in my Year 11 Ancient History classroom. As I studied Suetonius, Tacitus and Cassius Dio’s histories, I grew enamoured with the Roman Empire and its unusual characters. Suetonius’ history in particular was overflowing with scandalous stories that excited 16 year old me. I began to wonder what these stories might look like on a stage, with the historians interacting with their historical subjects. And the rest is, well, history. I set out to write a play that was humorous and engaging to all audiences, whilst remaining educational and truthful. Although a difficult feat to accomplish, we have worked hard to bring you a version of history that is, as Cassius Dio would put it, “cool”.
