Death of A Salesman
Synopsis
Written by Arthur Miller
Death of a Salesman takes place over two days in the life of Willy Loman. He is a sixty year old, who has been working as a travelling salesman all his life; on the road for great lengths of time and away from his beloved family. The curtains rise on Willy, exhausted with life. As time continues the present is interwoven with memories from better days, where the Loman Family was happy and full of hope. These moments contrast with the bleak present, where happiness struggles to exist. Through relationships and conversations with various characters, Willy becomes aware of his life, how he has been talking of a life that he isn’t actually living, a life that he has failed to arrive at. If there is anything this play teaches us, it is that life can be hard work but at the end of the day we can’t blame anyone else for the life we have, we make the decisions, we get to choose.
