The Envelope Please
Synopsis
Devised by Gillian Binks
A celebration of Academy Award winning songs.
“The Envelope Please” is a phrase which reminds us of the excitement of the Academy Awards, arguably one of the most popular entertainment awards ceremonies in the world. In 1934 a new category was introduced and an Oscar was awarded to the Best Original Song featured in a film. The movies weren’t always winners but the songs that came from them were often fabulous little pieces of history, many of which have become classics.

From the Director
The Envelope Please is a joyous collection of songs which have won Academy Awards from 1934 until today. For this show I wanted to embody the true spirit of community theatre and give opportunities to young and inexperienced singers and dancers to tread the boards alongside more seasoned performers. I also wanted to do something fun and colourful in honour of my dear friend Terry McAuley who we sadly lost this year. Terry was renowned for his sparkling and creative costumes. I hope you enjoy the songs, the sequins and the smiles that are The Envelope Please.
